FC Cincinnati fan group gears up for home opener against rival Louisville
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Undefeated FC Cincinnati faces their also-undefeated river city rivals Louisville City FC Saturday night in their home opener at Nippert Stadium.
Nippert is expected to be a packed house. And despite the weather, one of the club's supporters' groups will be out in full force celebrating.
“The best way to stay warm is to sing, dance, chant and jump around, and that’s what we expect out of everybody there today,” said Bob Brumberg, a board member of the independent FC Cincinnati supporters' group, Die Innenstadt.
It's expected to be a great match between FC Cincinnati and the defending USL champions; the two teams are rivals and both teams have opened the season with a 2-0 mark.
“To open up at home with two undefeated teams, to have that rivalry, that history -- what better way to do it?” said Brumberg.
Brumberg says it's fantastic how soccer has caught on in Cincinnati and how the city has embraced it.
"I don’t think anybody expected what we were able to accomplish as a fan base and everything in such a short amount of time,” he said.
If you're interested in joining Die Innenstadt, Brumberg says to come out to Mecklenburg Gardens in Corryville for their pregame celebration at 2 p.m. It's $20 to join; that gets you a scarf and helps fund the smoke and banners you see in the Bailey at home games.
For away matches, the group meets at Rhinehaus in Over-the-Rhine. You can also learn more about them on their website.
If you can't make it out to the game at Nippert Saturday, you can catch it on Star 64 at 7 p.m.
