Franklin man now charged with molesting a child when he was a teen
WARREN COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) - Seven years after he's accused of molesting a child, a grand jury indicts a local man on sex abuse charges.
While the allegations are seven years old, they only came to light in the past year.
A man who was 15 at the time was accused of having sexual contact with a young girl, but prosecutors say because of where he lived, he had access to other children.
22-year-old Michael Abner is charged with three counts of gross sexual imposition. Prosecutors say he lived at a home in Franklin, which operated as an in-home daycare.
They stress that the relationship between Abner and the alleged victim was separate and apart from the daycare. Neighbors were stunned.
Robert Milby has lived in the Franklin neighborhood for 20 years. He was aware of a daycare operating out of the home.
“I’ve noticed people come and go…” said Milby.
Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell says there is no reason to believe there may be other victims, but he wants parents who used the service to know about the charges.
Fornshell says cases such as this are tough to prosecute. The case is seven years old and the child was younger than 8-years-old at the time.
Local 12 spoke with another neighbor who did not want to appear on camera. She was shocked, saying the Abners are a good family and there were never any red flags.
Michael Abner appeared in court last week and remains free on a promise to return.
He was ordered to stay away from the alleged victim.
Any parents concerned that their child may have been a victim, they're asked to contact Det. Jeff Stewart with Franklin police at (937) 746-2882 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
