Group to launch petition drive to put FC Cincinnati stadium on November ballot
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A group that doesn't want to see the new FC Cincinnati stadium built in the West End wants to begin a petition drive to take the issue to voters.
No FC in West End Coalition submitted a referendum petition at City Hall on Friday. The group wants to get the issue on the ballot for November.
Cincinnati City Council approved the stadium deal on April 16. As part of the deal, $100,000 will be invested annually in West End organizations. Affordable housing will be built there and an athletic association and youth soccer programs will be started.
Some who oppose worry about people being displaced, rising property taxes and rents.
The coalition says it will file more than 6,000 signatures with the Board of Elections within 30 days.
No FC in West End Coalition believes a stadium in the West End is not in the best interest of people living there. The Cincinnati Educational Justice Coalition also opposes the stadium in that location.
