Mother, grandfather indicted on involuntary manslaughter in 6-year-old's overdose death
MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) - A child's mother and grandfather are facing charges, including involuntary manslaughter, in connection with the overdose death of a 6-year-old girl.
Alice Kinman died of a drug overdose in October. The girl's mother, Stasha Kinman, and grandfather, Ben Kinman, said that she got into Ben's tramadol that was on the table and took it herself, but police don't believe that's what happened.
Police said they believe Stasha gave Alice the tramadol on accident, but when the girl got sick, having seizures, vomiting and having difficulty breathing, she didn't call 911. Instead, police said she had Googled "tramadol overdoses."
“She basically watched the symptoms occur in her daughter. She did not respond or call 911 at that point when she told us her first initial symptoms were being observed," said detective Brent Higgins. "There was some indication that she had recently researched effects of tramadol and overdose that occurs with tramadol.”
Stasha and Ben Kinman were arrested Thursday on indictments of obstruction of justice, involuntary manslaughter and child endangering. If convicted, both could face up to 15 years in prison.
