Xavier athletes help raise money for Hurricane Maria victims
EVANSTON, Ohio (WKRC) - The Xavier women’s volleyball team joined forces with the tennis team to collect donations for victims of Hurricane Maria Wednesday night.
A player on each team is from Puerto Rico; Laura Grossman plays volleyball and Alejandro Rodriguez plays tennis. Both of their families are fine, but there's a lot of rebuilding ahead, so Xavier offered free admission to the volleyball game in exchange for donations.
"That actually means a lot in my opinion because it shows that the people not only around me, but in Cincinnati and Xavier, they care about the Puerto Rican people and so that makes me proud to be part of this community here," says Rodriguez, who's a freshman.
Some people dropped off donations even though they weren't able to stay for the game. One man delivered about 40 cases of bottled water.
