Indiana man accused of molesting, impregnating 10-year-old
MARION, Ind. (WISH / CNN Newsource / WKRC) - An Indiana man is charged with molesting a 10-year-old girl and allegedly getting her pregnant.
Nicholas Deon Thrash, 34, was living with the girl's mother and knew the family well.
"We invited him into our home," the girl's grandmother said. "He helped my husband all he could."
Thrash is charged with 10 counts of child molestation and is currently being held at the Grant County Jail on a 500,000 cash only bond, according to RTV6.
The family says the young girl is 20-weeks pregnant and they are caring for the girl while her mother is in jail.
The victim's mother was arrested as part of the investigation and charged with two counts of neglect of a dependent, Marion Police said.
"Now her whole life has changed. She's scared being this far along and having to carry this baby," her grandmother said. "She come out and ask 'Can I get my Barbies?' I said of course you can."
"She is still a little girl that wants to play that has to grow up overnight."
It's something her grandmother wants to talk about hoping this will inspire other parents to talk to their children and possibly prevent anything like this from happening to anyone else.
"Teach your kids to have enough trust in you to come to you and say 'this is wrong. Help.'"
Sandy Runkle, with Prevent Child Abuse Indiana says that sexual abuse happens in one-on-one situations about 80 percent of the time and about 90 percent of the time is with someone the victim knows.
"I hope he gets what's coming to him," the girl's grandmother said. "He's got to pay for this."
