16 tons of cocaine seized by Coast Guard
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WKRC) - The Coast Guard delivered 16 tons of cocaine after many successful raids in international waters.
Crews in Fort Lauderdale used cranes to offload wrapped bales of the drug, which are worth a total of about $480 million.
More than 30 suspected drug smugglers were arrested during the 17 separate raids. Those suspects were sent to various jurisdictions for prosecution.
Several of the raids were reportedly challenging and were made at night or in rough waters.
The Coast Guard cooperated with Canadian ships in many of the raids.
