CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Bengals standout defensive tackle Geno Atkins joined six other starters who did not participate in practice on Thursday as the team's injuries mount heading into Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears.

Kickoff for that game is 1 p.m. in Paul Brown Stadium.

Atkins was a full participant in practice on Wednesday, but did not participate on Thursday due to a toe injury.

He joined six other starters who did not practice for a second straight day on Thursday: linebacker Vontaze Burfict; cornerback Adam Jones; linebacker Nick Vigil; cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick; safety Shawn Williams and running back Joe Mixon.

Burfict is in concussion protocol after getting hit helmet-to-helmet by Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster in Monday night's game.

Jones suffered a groin injury while making a diving interception of Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on the first possession of the game. He left the game after that and was declared out.

Kirkpatrick is in concussion protocol despite playing 100 percent of the defensive snaps against Pittsburgh.

Mixon is also in concussion protocol after being knocked out of Monday's game in the second quarter.

Vigil and Williams both sat out Monday's game after not practicing at all last week due to injuries.

Williams is dealing with a lingering hamstring issue that also prevented him from playing in the Nov. 26 game against the Cleveland Browns, while Vigil was forced from that game due to a right ankle injury.

Cornerback Darqueze Dennard also did not participate for a second straight day. He suffered a knee injury in the first half of the Pittsburgh game, but still played 89.4 percent of the defensive snaps.

Backup safety Brandon Wilson missed practice again due to an ankle injury suffered against the Steelers.

Linebacker Vincent Rey was a limited participant for a second straight day. He suffered a hamstring injury in the Nov. 19 win at Denver and didn't play against either Pittsburgh or Cleveland due to the injury.

BEARS INJURY REPORT: Here is the Bears injury/practice participation report for Thursday:

  • Did Not Participate: S Adrian Amos (hamstring); WR Josh Bellamy (illness); DT Eddie Goldman (hip); LB Pernell McPhee (shoulder).
  • Limited Participant: S DeAndre Houston-Carson (ankle).
