Former Bengals head coach Sam Wyche thinks heart donor was a Steelers fan
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - About 10 months ago, Coach Sam Wyche was dying.
On Thursday night, he's trying to win a golf tournament.
The former Bengals coach is in Georgia for the charity tournament held by Arizona Cardinals Head Coach Bruce Arians.
Wyche got a new heart back in September. It was just in the nick of time, too.
Doctors had arranged to send him to hospice.
These days, the 72-year-old is living a relatively healthy life with a heart from someone he doesn't know.
But there is one thing he thinks he knows about the donor.
"All I know is he's about two hours north of Charlotte, which puts him right in the middle of Pittsburgh Steeler territory. Not sure how long I can live with that thought,” said Wyche.
Wyche says he's thankful everyday he's still alive.
He also says he's going to win the tournament.
