MLS: No decision on 2nd expansion city until 2018
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - FC Cincinnati fans were expecting a decision on whether the club would be joining Major League Soccer sometime the week before Christmas. But the MLS now says it will not make a decision until after the new year.
The league discussed expansion during a December 14 meeting after each of the four finalist for expansion made their pitch for their respective cities.
On Wednesday, December 20, the MLS announced that Nashville was awarded one of two expansion franchises. The second city is yet to be determined. Cincinnati, Detroit and Sacramento are the three being considered.
On Wednesday, FC Cincinnati President and General Manager Jeff Berding said their bid remains "very competitive" and calls it "a process & involves ongoing communication."
