BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) -- Browning Becherer threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Nathan Sames with seven seconds remaining in the game to knock off Highlands 37-34 in the KHSAA Class 4A championship game Saturday.

Collins won its first state championship in a rematch of last year's title game, avenging a 47-0 loss. Highlands had won five straight state championships.

Becherer entered the game for his first and only play and threw the winning TD pass after starting quarterback Lawson Page lost his helmet on the previous play and had to sit out a play. Page completed 15-of-23 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 108 yards. Ryan Watkins ran for 121 yards and a touchdown.

Sames caught six passes for 73 yards and two scores.

Highlands running back Zach Harris scored three times and rushed for 103 yards. Quarterback Drew Houliston threw for 367 yards and two touchdowns.

Harris gave Highlands its first lead of the game with a nine-yard touchdown run from Harris to give the Bluebirds a 14-10 lead on the opening drive of the second half.

Deandre Farris responded for Collins with a four-yard score on the ensuing drive and added another score. He had 43 rushing yards and 69 receiving yards on six receptions.

Collins extended its lead with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Lawson to Sames as time expired in the third quarter.

On the opening fourth quarter drive for Highlands, Evan Allen caught a 34-yard score from Houliston to pull the Bluebirds within two points before Collins regained the lead with Farris's second score of the night.

Houliston threw for his second touchdown when he found Alex Veneman wide open for the 42-yard touchdown pass to pull within two points. Veneman finished his night with four catches for 73 yards.

After Collins elected not to punt and turned the ball over on downs, Harris capped off an 11 play, 44-yard drive with a one-yard score to take back the Highlands lead at 34-30 with 2:33 to go in the game.
