21 games featured in 20th Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown schedule

The Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown is in its 20th year.

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A schedule featuring 21 games over four weeks, kicking off the respective seasons in Indiana, Kentucky and then Ohio in late August, highlights the 20-year anniversary of the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown presented by Mercy Health Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, Meijer and Dr Pepper – the nation’s largest high school football showcase.

The Showdown will celebrate two decades as the longest running high school football event in the United States with 42 schools playing the 21 from Friday, Aug. 18 through Friday, Sept. 8. Participating Showdown schools comprise top programs from Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois.

The 2017 Showdown again will serve as the official kickoff to high school football in the region – beginning with games involving schools from Southeast Indiana and Northern Kentucky on Friday, August 18. East Central travels to rival Lawrenceburg at 7 that evening, while Cooper hosts 26-time Kentucky state champion Highlands at 7:30 in a season-opening matchup.

Five days later, Deer Park hosts Hughes in the Ohio Kickoff set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23. The game was originally scheduled to be played at UC’s Sheakley Athletics Center, but was forced to move because UC is using the facility for its weight room during the renovation of its basketball arena – making it not possible to play any football games there.

West Clermont (which was formed by the consolidation of Amelia and Glen Este) will play its first ever game on Aug. 25 when it hosts Princeton.
