East Central wins Indiana Class 4A football championship
INDIANAPOLIS (WKRC) - East Central captured the Indiana Class 4A title with a 14-7 victory over previously unbeaten Lowell at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
It's the second championship for the school with the first coming in 1994.
Lowell got on the board first with a rushing score in the first quarter.
Justin Brown answered in the second quarter with a 13-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Alex Maxwell that capped a 16-play drive. his only catch of the game tied the score at 7-7.
With just over two minutes remaining in the game, Maxwell took a low snap and scampered six yards to put the Trojans in the lead for good 14-7. He was 6-for-11 for 65 yards passing and added 13 carries for 88 yards on the ground.
A Nathan Lloyd interception at the East Central 10 -- his second of the game and the third turnover forced by the defense -- sealed the victory with 1:35 left.
