Ohio State loses first game of Big Ten tournament to Rutgers, 66-57

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - On Wednesday afternoon, Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith offered a vote of confidence for basketball head coach Thad Matta amidst one of his worst seasons on the Buckeyes sidelines. The season was about to get worse. Ohio State losing to Rutgers in the 11-14 matchup in the Big Ten Tournament, 66-57. The victory for Rutgers marking the Scarlet Knights' first win in the Big Ten tournament since joining the conference, their first postseason tournament win since 2014 when they won in the opening round of the AAC Tournament.

Jae'Sean Tate leading the way for Ohio State with 18 points. Rutgers' Nigel Johnson had a game high 21. The Scarlet Knights advance to play sixth-seeded Northwestern in Thursday's final game of the evening.
