Reds claim pitcher off waivers from Tigers and put another pitcher on 60-day DL
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The Reds on Friday placed pitcher Rookie Davis on the 60-day disabled list and claimed pitcher Jairo Labourt off waivers from the Detroit Tigers.
Davis is still rehabbing from surgery last October to repair the labrum and remove a bone spur in his right hip.
The move to put Davis on the disabled list clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Labourt, who was optioned to minor league camp.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Labourt is a left-hander who turns 24 years old on March 7. He appeared in six games for Detroit last season and allowed three runs in six innings thanks in part to walking seven batters.
In seven minor league seasons he struck out 470 batters in 480 1/3 innings, but also walked 270.
Last season though in Class A, Class AA and Class AAA combined he appeared in 45 games and had a 2.17 ERA. He pitched 66 1/3 innings, walked 33 and struck out 79.
Davis appeared in seven games for the Reds last season and made six starts. He went 1-3 with an 8.63 ERA in 24 innings.
