Reds rally late to defeat Royals 10-6
SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP/WKRC) - The key hit in a Reds rally came from a pitcher in a 10-6 victory over the Royals on Monday.
Tim Adleman hit a go-ahead two-run double in the eighth inning, one of 13 batters Cincinnati sent to the plate in that eight-run frame.
The teams combined for just one run over the first six innings and then 15 combined in final three.
Jason Hammel went 5 1/3 innings in the start for Kansas City, scattering three hits and allowing one earned run while striking out five.
Looking to nail down a spot in the Reds' rotation after injuring an ankle in his last start, Rookie Davis worked four strong innings for Cincinnati, giving up one earned run. Joey Votto doubled in three at-bats and is hitting .164 this spring.
The Reds return to Goodyear, Ariz., on Tuesday to take on the Angels. Cody Reed is scheduled to start.
