Reds send infielder Herrera to Louisville
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Still unable to overcome injuries, Dilson Herrera will start the season in Louisville rather than with the Reds.
The Reds announced on Tuesday that the infielder cleared waivers and will be sent outright to Class AAA, though he will remain in Major League camp as a non-roster invitee.
Herrera has been limited to designated hitter duties while recovering from a shoulder injury.
He was the key piece acquired in the trade that sent Jay Bruce to the New York Mets in 2016, but the 23-year-old Herrera has yet to play a game for Cincinnati and has hit .235 with four hits in 17 at-bats this spring.
In two seasons with Louisville so far, Herrera played in 92 games with 71 coming at second base and three at third base. He had 344 plate appearances and his slash line (batting average/on-base percentage/slugging percentage) was .264/.325/.403.
