UC Bearcats land another highly coveted recruit in Fairfield's Malik Vann
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - New University of Cincinnati head football coach Luke Fickell continues to reap the benefits of his recruiting efforts, landing highly coveted defensive end Malik Vann from Fairfield High School as part of the 2018 class.
The 6-foot-2, 270-pounder, who announced his decision on Twitter, was one of the top targets for Fickell and his staff, although many believed he was out of reach. Vann was offered scholarships from many of the nation's elite programs including Alabama, Tennessee, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Florida State and Notre Dame.
Vann, who attended the Bearcats recent spring game, said he had developed a great relationship with Fickell and also believed staying close to home would be a real positive of playing for the Bearcats.
Vann was rated as the 12th best defensive end in the country told Bearcat Journal it came down to the Bearcats and Michigan State.
“I loved the whole staff,” Vann told the Bearcat Journal. “I like the direction Fickell has this team going and the emphasis he's putting on local guys. The recruits around here having the buzz to kickstart a program back to what it once was. Also, them having a top criminal justice program was a factor. Being able to be a part of a change for the city and community to get them excited about UC football was huge.”
