Xavier to face Wisconsin in Gavitt Tipoff Games
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Xavier is scheduled to take on Wisconsin in the third annual Gavitt Tipoff Games this season it was officially announced on Wednesday as the Musketeers travel to Madison, Wisc., on Thursday, Nov. 16.
Tip-off time will be announced at a later date.
The teams last faced each other in the 2016 NCAA Tournament with Wisconsin winning 66-63 on Bronson Koenig's three-pointer at the buzzer.
There was a reported rematch to take place at the Cintas Center during the 2016-17 season but the Badgers allegedly backed out. Now the BIG EAST and Big Ten paired the teams against each other in Madison.
The Gavitt Tipoff Games is a series played between the BIG EAST and Big Ten Conferences and named in honor of Hall of Famer Dave Gavitt, founder of the BIG EAST.
Among the 16 participating schools, 11 played in the NCAA Tournament last year and two played in the NIT. The 11 NCAA teams are Minnesota, Providence, Purdue, Marquette, Butler, Maryland, Creighton, Northwestern, Seton Hall, Xavier and Wisconsin. The two NIT squads are Indiana and Illinois.
Xavier went 24-14 last season and advanced to NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight before being defeated by eventual national runner-up, Gonzaga. Wisconsin finished the year with a 27-10 record and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.
