Brad joined Local 12 in 1992. In June of 1996, Brad Johansen was named Sports Director and has now taken on the role of anchor for Local 12's First at 4 broadcast with co-anchor Paula Toti. It's a return of sorts for Brad, who held the anchor position for the 4:00 newscast years ago. Brad also co-anchors the 5:30pm newscast and the 10:00pm edition of Local 12 News on Star 64 with Sydney Benter.
His broadcast career consists of more than 60 journalism awards, including 21 Emmy's. In the last two years, Brad has won consecutive national Gracie Awards for his coverage of Lauren Hill including Best Documentary “#Playfor22.” Brad has worked in Peoria, IL; Lansing, MI; San Luis Obispo, CA; Las Vegas, NV.
Brad grew up in the Chicago suburb of Glen Ellyn, IL. He knew he wanted to get into broadcasting by the time he was in third grade. He completed his undergraduate work in 1984 at Bradley University with a double major in Speech Communications and Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Theater. In his senior year at Bradley University, he was named the #1 speaker in the country and was also a member of the #1 speech team in the country.
Brad is the TV play-by-play announcer for Bengals preseason and is the play-by-play announcer in college football, basketball, and baseball for CBS Sports Network. He was the radio play-by-play announcer for the Bengals during the 2000-2011 seasons and called Xavier basketball games on Fox Sports for 10 years. He has also called basketball games for both the University of Cincinnati and Miami University.
Brad married his wife, Colleen, in December of 1998 and is the father of three sons and a daughter.
