Brandon Orr joined the Local 12 Weather Authority Team in August of 2015. He offers live coverage from the field during severe weather events, from extensive coverage of the Gatlinburg, Tennessee wildfires to riding out Hurricane Irma in South Florida.
He moved to WKRC after two years with the WYMT Sky Alert Weather Team in Hazard, Kentucky where he forecasted the tricky weather conditions of the eastern Kentucky mountains as well as promoted tourism with Backroads, a weekly adventure segment.
He is a native of Virginia Beach but spent time in Pennsylvania at Penn State earning his meteorology degree. From forecasting winter weather for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to assistant teaching at the university, Brandon brings a wide variety of experience to Local 12.
Brandon was the first meteorologist at WYMT to earn the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation from the American Meteorological Society and took home first place for Best Weather Anchor and Digital Journalist at the 2015 Kentucky Associate Press Awards. His segment, Backroads, was nominated for a 2015 Regional Emmy Award.
