Sydney Benter joined Local 12 News in 2014. She is a general assignment reporter and anchors Local 12 News at 10 on Star 64. This is her second stint at the station. She also interned at Local 12 while in college. Sydney previously worked at WTWO in Terre Haute, Indiana, where she anchored the early evening and late newscasts.
Sydney was born and raised in North Bend, a suburb west of Cincinnati. She graduated from Taylor High School and went on to study at the University of Cincinnati. She earned a BFA in electronic media and double majored in journalism. While a student at UC, Sydney interned at local TV stations and worked at CNN World Headquarters in Atlanta.
Her passion for storytelling started at a young age. Sydney grew up performing in school plays and musicals. Her theater background and love of writing led her to a career in TV news.
Sydney knows how special it is to live and work in her hometown. She feels a true sense of community here and spends time giving back as much as possible. She’s a Radio Reading Services volunteer for the Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Sydney is also a Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati.
She enjoys reading, traveling and fine arts. She loves a good movie and knows more about popular culture than she’d care to admit. She and her husband like sampling new and different restaurants around town—especially because she considers herself domestically challenged.
Sydney is always looking for a great human interest story. Send her an email at SPBenter@local12.com.
