Cincinnati Archdiocese Changes Background Checks for Employees

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- The Cincinnati archdiocese is upgrading the background check process for the people who work there.

Starting next year, clerics, employees, and volunteers will be subject to checks by a company now under contract, called Selection.com. It's a national, Catholic-based company located in Cincinnati. Currently, background checks are done by diocesan employees.

The Archdiocese says child safety is the primary concern, but the change has the added benefit of being a bit less expensive for volunteers, $25 dollars instead of $58.

This impacts a lot of people:  Cincinnati has the sixth largest enrollment at Catholic schools in the country with 113 schools.
