Simple Diet To Help Heart

A new report says that a few simple changes can have you eating by the guidelines of a new food pyramid that helps fight heart disease.

Local 12's Liz Bonis shares details in todays Health Alert.

This newer food pyramid is based on the Mediterranean diet and it is one of the diets which appears to have a few simple guidelines to fight off several diseases. You can incorporate these changes at home or if you come downtown here and eat out.

Topping the list is simply more vegetables. The diet suggests you add them to soups, salads, or whatever else you might eat that you could top off with more veggies, even pizza. Next up is less meat, it's not no meat, just less of it on the plate. And that brings us to more seafood instead, this diet suggest seafood at least twice a week. Then you also need to swap your fat on this diet. It uses olive oil instead of butter or another fat whenever possible.

Now, it's important to note that the diet does not tell you not to eat sweets, just watch the serving sizes. Dessert is allowed, just with moderation.
