Researchers in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism looked at women who took up to 1000 milligrams of calcium a day and found that they had a lower risk of death from all causes by 22 percent, this over a ten year time period compared to those who did not take calcium.
This was a global study, which reviewed several other studies, and it's important to note, because you may be taking calcium for a number of reasons, such as to stop bone loss. So, here's what's suggested... up to 1000 milligrams a day, and it is best absorbed if you take it in small doses, such as no more than 500 milligrams at a time with food.
