Weight Connected To Headaches

A new study shows yet another hidden health problem associated with being overweight.

Medical Reporter Liz Bonis tells us about it in today's Health Alert.

This is one of the first studies to show a correlation between obesity and headaches, including migraine. It is published in the Journal Neurology, and we stopped down by the Boathouse today to tell you about it. We are here with some special families who are getting ready for the walk for RETT Syndrome.
When scientists looked at nearly 4,000 people, 11 hundred of them were obese. They found this overweight population was 81 percent more likely to have headaches and migraine compared to those of normal weight. Now you notice they are walking out here and that may help headaches. Even though they are not sure why this occurs, researchers speculate it could have to do with hormones.  And exercise can help balance those hormones.

Until we know more, you may want to ask your doctor about what to do if you do get headaches, but also see if dropping even a small amount of weight makes a difference.
