Health Alert: Vitamin D Report
CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- A recent government report says we all may benefit from getting the right amounts of the "sunshine" vitamin.
This new report found that vitamin D is not a panacea for everything but if you need it, it is very important that you get it. It is suggested that you ask your doctor for a blood test because you probably shouldn't take supplements if you are not low. But the average person still needs 600 to 1000 international units a day.
And in addition to about 15 minutes in the sun, which is hard to do, you can get that in four other ways:
1. Eat more salmon. It has high levels of vitamin D.
2. Eat more mushrooms. They may be grown in the ground but they are high in vitamin D.
3. You can also eat eggs. Each yolk has about ten percent of the vitamin D that you need in a day.
4. Finally, you also may benefit from getting milk. It's vitamin D fortified, which means three a day dairy is a great way to get it in.
