Health Alert: Fish for good health
CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- Yet another study says if you have plans to eat out this weekend you might want to enjoy some seafood, it could be just what the doctor orders for your cholesterol.
It is recommended that you don't just know your total cholesterol but also your good and bad. The good needs to go up to transport waste products out of the body and bring the bad down. To do that you might want to get out and get some exercise, get a healthy diet overall, and add one specific food to it.
Local 12's Liz Bonis stopped out at the Mercy Healthplex in Anderson to tell you more about it. Researchers in this trial found that the fatty fish such as salmon helps the number of the large or good cholesterol. Those who ate three to four servings of this type of fish per week were able to bring good cholesterol up. A study in "Plos One" found this to be true compared to those who ate less fish.
You do need to be careful about how the fish is prepared. If you fry it you may reduce this good benefit, but salmon, mackerel, and tuna are the best kind of fish for this according to the report.
