Health Alert: Head and Neck Cancer
CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- A study just released has an important warning about what we know and what we don't when it comes to head and neck cancer.
The study asked more than 2,100 people if they knew very much about the causes of head and neck cancer. Almost seven out of ten people said they didn't know much about this cancer at all.
What researchers from Yale University said all of us need to know is that it's the tenth top cancer in the US. 75 percent of cases are caused by the use of tobacco. It also has been linked to the Human Pappilloma Virus, or HPV. An early warning sign can be a sore in your mouth that doesn't go away. A lump on your neck is another warning sign.
If you catch these cancers early they are treatable which is why researchers want people to be on the look-out for changes to the mouth, throat and neck.
