Health Alert: Blood clots and the HPV vaccine

CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- A study released from the Journal of the American Medical Association said there was no increased risk of blood clots in women.who were vaccinated against HPV.

HPV is a virus that can lead to a number of types of cancers.  Blood clots have been a concern for some people which was why researchers were taking a closer look at the risk.

Researchers found that blood clots were not associated with the HPV vaccine.  Experts at the Cleveland Clinic, which supplied the message, said scientists at the Statens Serum Institute in Denmark studied more than 500,000 women and girls ages 10 to 44.  They found no link between the HPV vaccine and blood clots during the 42 days after vaccination.  That was the time period defined as the main risk period.

This information may offer to those who want to get the vaccine or talk to their doctors about it some peace of mind.
