Medical Edge: Laughing for health

VILLA HILLS, Ky. (Liz Bonis) -- You can attend a really funny workshop at the Madonna Manor in Villa Hills, to improve your health.

There are a lot of good reasons for a good belly laugh if you ask Betty Finney, "oh, my goodness, there are a lot of things good about belly laughing. Belly laughing for one thing is free."
It's also really good for your health, from boosting immunity for fighting the flu,  to perhaps even boosting a few other things too. "When you laugh you're releasing endorphins, physical, spiritual, emotional when you just give in to a mirthful belly laugh."
"Your body chemistry actually changes when you laugh. So it's good for pain and it's good for your energy." Finney teaches workshops like these all over the country. She says for best results you need to laugh. "You can just look at yourself in the mirror in the morning and just start laughing."

She also has several other strategies and props to teach humor and health. As she may be living proof that laughter really is contagious. "What I find is that laughter is a universal language. People come together in this wonderful spirit of laughter."
She says you can use these props at home to make yourself laugh, and it does get easier with a little practice. "I feel great, it's like a stress reliever to me."
 Careful, you might not ever stop, "oh I love it, I'm just gonna wear it all the time."
Which reminds all of us why we really should laugh every day. "It just makes you feel good, better than crying."
