Medical Edge: Spring Bling Luncheon

CINCINNATI (Liz Bonis) -- You are invited to a celebration next week for breast cancer survivors.

It's all part of this years Spring Bling at the Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati.  She was just 32-years-old when Talika Bennis Carter says she knew something was terribly wrong.

Carter tells us, "I had noticed my right breast became engorged and in a week I went up a cup size.  I was diagnosed with stage four IBC, a rare form, inflammatory breast cancer.  It had spread to my liver, and I was given six months to live."
Those months have now turned into more than two years but she said when she was lost, confused and didn't know where to go she turned to Janet Chambers.  Chambers is a survivor and the founder of the breast cancer support organization called "I Have Wings."

Each year the organization honors survivors at their annual Spring Bling, a luncheon and jewelry sale to help fund survivors needs.  Tamika was last years honoree.

Janet Chambers said, "These women have been the wind other under women's wings, for sure."

The event is a celebration of life at the Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati, the goal is to honor these women and more importantly share their inspiring stories of what they want all of us to know.

For Talika that message is a simple one, "You can overcome anything, I have a strong faith and a strong belief system,  there's a higher power looking down on me."

She had a re-occurance this past October but said, "I also got married in October and so in the midst of thinking that life is over, and who wants someone with no boobs and cancer, someone did."
Someone she says that knows you need luck and love on your side to win at any game, including life.

"There are people in this world that God has created to live in this world and live as angels," Talika tells us.  And she says angels fly because they take themselves lightly.

But for Talika Bennis Carter they also, "Have given me all the more reason to continue to fight, because there is someone out there fighting for me as well."

You are invited to attend the Spring Bling and honor these survivors.  It is Thursday, April 10th.  CLICK HERE for more details
