Deputy Released From Hospital

New information:
Hamilton County Sheriff Deputy Tom Lang has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home. His injuries are not as serious as first thought. Deputy Lang is expected to make a full recovery and return to active duty soon.

Previous story:
An accident involving a Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputy shut down northbound I-275, past US 50, near Lawrenceburg for several hours Wednesday afternoon.

It happened around 2:15 pm.  Dispatchers believe the deputy may have been responding to another accident near Kilby Road.

Local 12's Adam Clements is on the scene. He says a van was struck by lightning, disabling the van. A sheriff's deputy traveling in the other direction crossed the median to help with traffic.

Deputy Tom Lang, a 16 year veteran, was hit from behind when a tractor trailer hit his cruiser.

The deputy was flown by medical helicopter to University Hospital Medical Center.

His injuries are not life threatening, but are said to be life-altering.

The interstate has since reopened.
