Monroe Police Officer Shoots Shoplifting Suspect

MONROE, Ohio (WKRC-TV)  Monroe Police are investigating an officer involved shooting.

It happened at the Cincinnati Premium Outlets around 9:15 Saturday night.

The officer was called to a store at the outlets for a report of two people shoplifting.

When the officer arrived, the men took off. Police say one of the men hopped into a car.

"The officer was in front of the vehicle. The subject accelerated at the officer. The officer ended up on the hood of the vehicle," said Lt. Brian Curless of Monroe Police.

Investigators say the Monroe officer then fired two shots through the windshield  hitting the suspect.

The suspect was taken to the hospital.

Police are not giving us updates at this time on the conditions of the officer or the suspect.
