Crash Caused by Lightning Strike

Ryne McCormick was cruising along the interstate, when the bolt struck.

"It sounded like a couple rounds of gunshots, loud, right by your ear. The flash of light came from the hood of the car, and it popped up, and basically covered the whole windshield and looked like a big fireball. Ryne was stunned.

It took him a few minutes to realize his work van had been struck by lightning.

I really did not know what happened until I walked around the truck and saw the tires."

Hamilton county sheriff's deputies were there in minutes, blocking the road to protect the van from oncoming traffic. Ryne was a about a half mile from the road block, when he heard another loud noise.

Basically I just heard a loud boom, and I just thought it was a tractor trailer that had flipped over."

It was a tractor trailer, slamming into the back of one of the deputy's cruisers.

"I'm thinking this is all because of something that happened to me.

"They blocked off the road to bring the helicopter in, and at that point, I'm just praying that the officer is ok."

Sheriff's deputy Tom Lange was airlifted to the hospital.

Despite the violent crash, he suffered only minor injuries.

I did worry about it all night, and hearing that good news today really is a blessing.
