Indiana Schools, College Dorm Norms

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana college students moving back to campus are likely to find dorms that more closely resemble hotels than the dorms of their parents and grandparents.

Upgrades at schools including Indiana State University, IUPUI and Indiana University have left students with rooms wired for Internet and wireless, secure bathrooms and views of the downtown Indianapolis skyline.

IUPUI director of housing and residence life Aaron J. Hart tells The Indianapolis Star (http://indy.st/1anVAtJ ) the school's new University Tower is the "nicest, most state-of-the-art residence hall" for freshmen that he's ever seen.

Indiana University is opening a new $35 million residence hall this year. Vice President Tom Morrison says some of the dorm renovations on campus are much-needed upgrades, but others reflect the fact that today's students have different expectations for living arrangements.
