Colerain teacher in court

Original Story From 7/31

Julie Hautzenroeder is free on bond tonight after pleading not guilty to charges she had sex with two 16-year-old students.

Hautzenroeder is a teacher at Colerain High School. Local 12's Larry Davis was in court today as the prosecution outlined its case.

We learned some new details which relate to the allegations against the Colerain High School teacher. Prosecutors say while Julie Hautzenroeder acknowledges some aspects of the allegations, she denies there was any sexual activity.

The 36-year-old Colerain High School teacher, in handcuffs, made her way into court for her arraignment. Hautzenroeder pleaded not guilty to felony charges of sexual battery.

The prosecutor claims sometime between late April and mid-May of this year, the teacher had sex with two 16-year-old students at her Loveland home.

Assistant prosecutor Josh Berkowitz says another adult can confirm the boys were at Hautzenroeder's home. He says once Northwest School District officials were made aware of rumors, they called on the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department to investigate.

In making a case for his client to be released, defense attorney Stew Matthews told the judge the single mother of a seven-year-old daughter was aware of the investigation from the beginning - but made no attempt to leave.

Prosecutors say those texts were sexual in nature but they say Hautzenroeder claims they were taken out of context at the Hamilton County Courthouse.
