Union Township Road Projects
If you've traveled around Clermont County's Union Township lately, you know what we're talking about.
If you haven't had to travel in Clermont County you might want to count your blessings because there are so many traffic construction projects underway that at times you may think you just "can't get there from here" or anywhere. Dont worry as Local 12s Rich Jaffe has learned there will be some occasional lights at the end of that traffic tunnel.
What looks like Mother Nature on the run along State Route 32 in Eastgate is simply progress. It's impossible to drive through the heart of Union Township without running into at least some of it.
" Eastgate Boulevard is being completely re-done. The bridge is being enhanced. The exit and entrance ramps to Eastgate boulevard are being modified. 32 is being changed from really from the county line east to old 74 initially." says township administrator Ken Geis.
And the list goes on. Clough pike, Bach Buxton,Elick Lane, Gleneste Withamsville and Mt. Carmel Tobasco. All major roadways, all headed for changes, including a minimum of three lanes.
One of the most aggressive projects is on Aicholtz Road where there will eventually be a tunnel underneath 275.
So far 3 homes have been purchased for the project and more could be headed for demolition in the future.
Ken Geis says, "If we need the access we'll ask them if they want to sell their homes to us, and if not we'll modify that and we can really push the road to one side."
Stephanie Neff has lived on Aicholtz almost her entire life. With trucks and heavy equipment going up and down the street she says right now it's, "Just loud. I mean busy, a lot of people going up and down trying to see what's going on. A lot of cars. But other than that doesn't really bother anybody."
A short distance away, the first luxury apartments in township history are under construction and they will add even more cars.
"If people weren't coming to live in Union Township, to shop in Union Township, to conduct business in Union Township we wouldn't have to do this, but we do have to do this because people want to live here, shop here, conduct business here and the community continues to grow and that's a really good byproduct of it." Geis tells us.
State, county, and local officials are trying to do all of this with as little disruption as possible.
So when will it end?
Eastgate Boulevard is supposed to be done by Thanksgiving, just in time for holiday shopping.
Some of the other projects won't be done until 2018.
Clermont County has set up a special website for the latest in construction updates, and traffic information.
