Hazmat Crews Investigate White Powder At P&G

The all-clear has been sounded at Procter and Gamble world headquarters in downtown Cincinnati, after the fire departments hazardous materials unit was called to investigate a suspicious powder which came in the mail.  The white substance was analyzed and deemed not to be dangerous.

A mail room employee had opened the envelope around 2 p-m.  Police Sgt. Doug Snider says the powder inside was some type of absorbing agent, like the little packs in pill bottles, to absorb moisture.  Nothing which caused harm to anyone, no one was affected.

Sgt. Snider says the substance was included with a typical sloppily hand-written letter, however he did not say if the letter included any sort of threat.  The FBI is routinely called when suspicious powder is sent through the mail, and will investigate if there was any sinister motive.

The twin-towers building for the consumer products was not evacuated.
