Making A Safe Route To School

AVONDALE, Ohio (Larry Davis) -- Every day a number of Avondale children walk the same route to Rockdale Academy and one of the community projects is to make this a safer path to school.

A little artwork is being added to the chain link fence which lines the walking path to school.

These are vinyl strips that are being interwoven in the fence to make the walk more visually stimulating.

Volunteers with Keep Cincinnati Beautiful are being joined by workers at Perfetti Van Melle, makers of Mentos and Airheads candy.

In addition to making a safe route to school, they are painting a wall which will feature a mural of neighborhood landmarks.  This vacant building is being painted.  The playground is being cleaned and litter is being picked up.

They may be taking a day off from their jobs but not from work.

They are giving back to the community.

And the whole idea behind all this work is to not only make this safer for kids, but to improve the quality of life for everyone in the neighborhood.

This is the Perfetti Van Melle's sixth community service day where its employees take part in neighborhood improvement projects.
