Accused Killer Testifies in his Own Defense

BURLINGTON, Ky. (WKRC) -- The former Warren County Sheriffs Deputy charged with the murders of his parents testified Friday in his own defense.

Michael Moore first told police an intruder shot and killed his parents before wounding him.

Throughout this trial, the big question has been, will Michael Moore take the stand in his own defense?

That question was answered first thing Friday morning.

Michael Moore told jurors his parents were great people by treating other children as if they were their own.  He described his father as a brilliant man, whom he admired, because quote, He was my dad.

Later Moore testified about suffering a back injury and need of pain medication.  He admitted to abusing the pills.  He said his mother became his pill connection, giving him pills that were kept in the family safe.

After moving back in with his parents, Moore says he found a note from his dad, inside the safe, saying to stop taking his mother's pills or, He would be out of here.

He said the fact his mother supplied him with her pain pills led to family arguments and his father became quite angry.

Moore also said he often took pills without permission and admitted to be an addict.
