C.E.O. of Kroger Retiring, C.O.O. Taking Over

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- Kroger says its C.E.O. will retire from that post when the new year begins.

David Dillon's retirement is effective January first.

That's when chief operating officer W. Rodney Mcmullen will step into the role as part of Kroger's long- term C.E.O. succession plan.

The nation's largest traditional supermarket operator said today the 62  year old Dillon will continue to serve as chairman through the end of 2014.  He's served as C.E.O. since 2003.

The 53 year old Mcmullen has served as President and C.O.O. since 2008.

Last week Kroger reported its second-quarter profit climbed as it worked to build shopper loyalty with improved offerings.
