Petition Drive has Fewer than Half Valid Signatures

HAMILTON COUNTY (WKRC) -- Workers at the Hamilton County Board of Elections finish verifying more than 126,000 signatures on petitions aimed at repealing a law concerning payouts at internet sweepstakes cafes.

The cafes sell phone cards that allow buyers to play internet sweepstakes games to win cash.  Some state officials called it illegal gambling and passed a law limiting the payouts to ten dollars.

The cafe industry gathered more than 430,000 signatures, trying to get a repeal of the law on the ballot in November of next year.

Fewer than 50 percent of the signatures in Hamilton County were valid.
