Bigger Jackpots coming to Mega Millions
CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- Changes to the Mega Millions jackpots will increase the jackpots and decrease your odds in winning the big prize.
Mega Millions makes changes to increase the jackpots but won't increase ticket prices.
Starting with the October 22 drawing, starting jackpots will increase to $15 million from $12 million. They'll also grow faster. Jackpots will grow by at least $5 million after each drawing where there isn't a big winner.
The prize for matching five white balls without the Mega Ball will increase from $250,000 to $1 million.
Mega Millions will add the number of white balls to 75 and decrease the number of gold balls to 15. As a result, the overall odds of winning will be 1 in 15 to win any prize. The odds of winning the jackpot will be one in 259 million. Right now the odds of winning the jackpot is 1 in nearly 176 million.
Tickets will remain $1. Mega Millions tickets are sold in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
