John Ruthven's Mural Dedicated Downtown

CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- A massive mural is dedicated downtown.

World renowned artist and Cincinnati native, John Ruthven, has been recreating one of his paintings for months.

It's called "Martha, The Last Passenger Pigeon."

Martha was the last of the breed of the pigeon that died one hundred years ago at the Cincinnati Zoo.

"It's been a labor of love on my part.  She's 21 feet long.  It took me two weeks to paint her.  So it was quite an extravagant thing to do.  I feel that this will promote conservation around the world.  Just to know about this.  It's a great thing for the city as well as the Cincinnati Zoo."

The mural depicts both Martha and her flock of passenger pigeons soaring over the bird run at the Cincinnati Zoo.

The mural was created in cooperation with artworks.
