Man Admits to Causing Fatal Crash

CLERMONT COUNTY, Ohio (WKRC) -- A New Richmond man will be sentenced Tuesday after he admitted causing a crash that killed a woman and left a man seriously injured.

Cody Rose was driving with a suspended license at the time and has several driving related convictions in his past.  Local 12's Angenette Levy was at Tuesday's sentencing.

Judge Anthony Brock sentenced Cody Rose to 490 days in jail.  180 days of that is for the crash that killed Maria Linfert and injured Steve Chaney.

The remaining time is for cases in which Cody Rose had been sentenced to community control, more commonly know as probation.

Those cases included a conviction for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.  Rose was driving without a license in late July when he turned left in front of a motorcycle driven by Steve Chaney on Bethel New Richmond Road.

Maria died several days later.

Chaney suffered a serious head injury.

Today Rose apologized for the crash and members of Maria and Steve's families spoke to the court.  Cody rose's attorney says his client is very remorseful and even tried to take his own life over this crash.

Rose will also have to pay more than four thousand dollars to Maria Linfert's mother for the cost of her funeral.

Cody Rose's family declined to comment after the hearing.
