Pontiff Says Church Should Be More Welcoming

Pope Francis is capturing the attention of the world again, after giving a very frank interview with an Italian magazine.

Pope Francis spoke candidly about homosexuality, abortion, and birth control.  In an interview for an Italian Jesuit magazine, he expanded on comments he made earlier this year.

The pontiff brushed off critics who say he should be more vocal about fighting abortion and gay marriage.

He says the church should focus less on divisive topics like homosexuality and abortion and make the church a more welcoming place for all.

On the role of women in the church, Pope Francis maintained his stance against ordaining women, but said women must be involved in important decisions in the church.
