Marathon Senate Speech Ends
WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKRC) -- Republican Senator Ted Cruz (R- Texas) ends a marathon Senate speech opposing President Obama's health care reform law after talking for 21 hours, 19 minutes.
The Texas freshman Senator and tea party conservative sat down to yield the floor at noon.
Cruz began talking yesterday afternoon to urge the de-funding of the three year old health system overhaul. He wanted to derail a bill to prevent a government shutdown because Senate democrats have the votes to remove the health care provision from that bill.
Cruz covered a lot of random ground in his marathon protest speech even quoting lines from the show "Duck Dynasty" and reading Doctor Seuss.
Many republicans opposed Cruz's effort, fearing their party might be blamed if there is a government shut-down.
