Optimism on Ending Gov. Shutdown?

WASHINGTON (CBS NEWS) -- Democrats say there's reason for optimism after lawmakers worked Saturday to try to end the partial government shutdown and avert a U.S. default.

This comes despite several shot down proposals from Capitol Hill.

So far no deal has emerged as the winner to end the political stalemate.

The best chance for a breakthrough appears to be in the Senate.

Majority leader Harry Reid and minority leader Mitch McConnell held a meeting Saturday morning.

The administration says if no deal is reached to increase the nation's borrowing limit before next Thursday, the government will have no money to pay its bills.
