Bengals Make Scoreboard Request Official
CINCINNATI (Paula Toti) -- Under the lease with Hamilton County when more than half the teams in the NFL get new scoreboards, the Bengals can get one from taxpayers.
The team says that condition was actually met two years ago. Local business owner Melanie Cedargren isn't so convinced she sees the need.
I know everyone around the country is upgrading but it's kind of hard when it works and we have to pay it makes it kind of difficult.
Hamilton County Commissioner Chris Monzel says it's more than difficult. The county doesn't have the money but he says the team knows that.
And actually the Bengals have been working with the county over the past couple of years to pick up costs we can't afford and they can. So I'm hoping the same situation occurs here.
And the former Commissioner who helped negotiate the lease and now director or business development for the Bengals, Bob Bedinghaus, told Paula Toti pretty much the same thing.
Bedinghaus says the franchise realizes it has an economic role to play in this. Both men point to what happened when the reds, under a similar lease, needed a new scoreboard and ended up paying a large portion.
If you can go 50/50 with the county I think that's a good thing.
Whatever happens will have to happen fast. The team wants the new scoreboard by summer.
